An aesthetically pleasing outline that will effortlessly glide down the line, coupled with SUNOVA’s unique parabolic rail, this board will surprise you.

Fin(s) included: None

What is the general goal / theme of the board?

Trying to create a nice-looking, functional yet simple design, good carry, and down the line speed, good hold in turns with the right fins.

What wave type / size does this board work best in?

Open, down the line waves. If the wave stands up or is flatter, all good. Not ideal for bowly top-to-bottom waves, good for stretched out waves where you need a good section connector.

Typical wave range, waist high to a few feet overhead.

What manoeuvres does this board do best?

Clean arcs, smooth, round house cutbacks, and just stylish trimming.

What skill level is this board for?

Novice to Pro.

How it its paddle power?

Well above average for its volume.

What you thought of when you designed it?

The goal was to create a functional yet sexy board. As a shaper, I don't ride everything I design; I still have personal preferences in boards. So I have never felt the desire to play with twin fins, of course, I rode them in the 70s and then Quads in the 80s, shaping a few customs here and there. I guess it was never a style of surfing I wanted to pursue, so this model was really inspired by dedicated Twin Fin riders, relying on the feeling they are looking for, then trying to make it look nice.

What it possibly compromises on then?

It's a Twin Fin, it offers a certain ride and feel, that's it.

Shape Details and Design Ino

OUTLINE: Super clean outline. Slightly fuller nose, more parallel, straighter curve out the tail, combined with a deep swallow tail. That will translate into a smooth feel when on rail, easy wave catching, and good hold in the bottom turns.

RAILS: The board in general is not thick, so the deck flatness carries to the rail slightly, but the rails feel fine, thin, and refined in your hands. A typical tucked under edge up front, blending through to the hard edge tail.

ROCKER: I would classify it as a mid-to-low rocker. So it will paddle and glide in well, yet still have enough curve to fit the wave. A slight optical illusion, with reduced thickness, the board looks more rockered than it is.

BOTTOM: Flat Bottom. SUNOVA’s unique flexy bottom adds another level of performance, so the boards are not as dependent on bottom contours. Also, the Parabolic rail offers hold and springback that don’t come with other constructions. This translates to an extremely fast board that will still fit into tight spots when you flex it up.

DECK: The deck is a fairly standard profile, with the overall board being a little thinner; this carries volume out to the rails in proportion, so the deck is comfortably flatter.

FINS: My recommendation is a good set of keels, or the raked Drivers I discuss in the vid, I don't recommend an upright fin.

FINAL STATEMENT: A classic Twin Fin shape in SUNOVA’s unique construction, it's a must-try.

Construction - Paraflex

Paraflex is SUNOVA’s premium performance construction. Developed over the last 5 years, from the ever persistent pursuit of perfect performance, It is our elite construction for all surfboards under 8’.

Paraflex is designed to have more spring and return in shorter boards than its Balsaflex predecessor, giving you a positive “more flexible” flex pattern as the board is loaded and unloaded through sections. Flexing and bending right into the pocket and rebounding predictably these boards fly out of sections with so much speed and life. A lightweight EPS core is coupled with a ½” parabolic balsa/composite rail that is then sandwiched between balsa skins top and bottom offering a product with unmatched spring and return.

The bottom is a 1.5mm Paulownia/fiberglass sandwich that is not completely rigid. This softer area on the bottom cushions the ride of the board, making it amazingly unaffected by chatter, giving you a smooth ride even when conditions are bumpy and average. The deck is a 2mm Paulownia/fiberglass sandwich with highlighted mini I beams that connect the glass under the wood, with the glass over. This creates a very rigid strong sandwich structure that is incredibly resistant to compressions, creating a strong and responsive feeling underfoot.

Finished off with solid balsa/composite nose and tail blocks for additional resistance to dings, these boards look even better than they perform. Fitted with a self-regulating air vent that utilizes a slightly permeable Goretex membrane encased in a special aluminum vent designed and engineered by TBF, Paraflex boards are functional and forward-thinking.

About SUNOVA Surfboards

SUNOVA Surfboards creates high-performance, lightweight surfboards using advanced materials and innovative technologies, designed for serious surfers who demand durability and excellence in every wave.
