ABOUT THE BOARD

• SIZE IT'S WORKING BEST All waves. From just under waist high up to head and a half, you could push it further. MANEUVERS IT DOES BEST General surfing, solid bottom turn, also a wave catcher.
• SKILL LEVEL IT'S BEST FOR Novice to Advanced (I think Pro level surfers would feel a bit held back unless they were just into the style) PADDLE POWER Above average.
• WHAT YOU THOUGHT OF WHEN YOU DESIGNED IT? Originally back in the late 90’s the Soul was a single fin, as the retro designs were making a comeback. In recent years people asked for a board similar to the Hayden Shapes, Hypto Krypto. When I compared the original Soul to Hayden’s model, they were virtually identical. So we added the extra fins, beefed it up slightly and just kept it in the range under the same name.
• WHAT IT POSSIBLY COMPROMISES ON THEN? Not a high performance board, so if the focus is airs, tight pocket snaps and critical top to bottom surfing, look at something else.

SHAPE DETAILS SUMMARY | DESIGN INFO

• OUTLINE Full nose, wide point forward, clean outline, rounded pin. The fuller nose helps the board climb on top of the water a little easier with the first few strokes. Having the wide point forward creates a longer tail and a shorter nose. Because the arc of the outline is longer and straighter through the back end it's possible to throw the board into larger surf and draw clean solid lines. You essentially have the tail of a longer board, while you gain something in a larger open wave, it’s also the reason it won't like to jam tight in the pocket and go vert with ease.
• RAILS Fuller. The rails are relative, as the board does carry some volume, pretty much the same volume as the Boss. The overall rail shape nose to tail is fairly generic, the goal being a board that has a wide operating range.
• ROCKER Medium, slightly flatter. With this rocker, the board carries into waves really well, keeps its speed over dead sections and catches waves really easy. Additionally, it carries well in cutbacks and on softer sections.
• BOTTOM Single concave. The wider nose and longer tail outline arc slightly reduce reaction time as you lean forward and on rail to initiate a turn. The single concave helps the rail engage a little earlier while also squirting water off the opposite rail, helping it get on rail earlier.
• DECK The deck is a fairly standard profile, with the overall board being a little thicker, this carries volume out to the rails in proportion, as well as into the nose and tail. This volume in general offers a level of comfort when paddling and catching waves, the first few strokes are not spent climbing out of the water.
• FINS (not included) 4 plus 1. Personally I like this board as an outright single fin. The single fin sits deeper in the water, so it's operating in clean green water and tapping into a little more power deeper in the wave, so it finds speed all by itself. If you think about where dolphins place themselves while surfing, they are really in the power zone. Ultimately the board becomes very versatile with so many fin options, single, twin, thruster, 2 + 1 or quad.
